Yes, the retracting mascot has been around since the mid 90's. As has been the case since BMW purchased Rolls-Royce, they are thought to have created or invented things, that they have mere taken credit for!

@silvawraith2: wow, I thought the retracting Spirit of Ecstasy started with the 2003 Phantom. Guess the feature has been around a little longer. Once again, I learn something new =). Thanks for the info!
