Details on This Rolls Royce Phantom:

  • Location
    La Jolla, California
  • Description
Man this Rolls is crazy! I have spotted this three times before. It has a carbon fiber hood, red Rolls logo, and rims with red trim. I'm not sure if I actually like it though. The rims are ugly

andrewo: I do believe you are correct in your opinion of craftsmanship when it comes to the teak deck. Although, it is not easy to make carbon fibre on a small scale, so there was quite a bit of skill required to make that carbon deck. My preference of the Carbon Fibre is simply because I just get bored with the same old on every vehicle. I believe that's why so many manufacturer's are growing their bespoke services. Too many cars on the road. It used to be driving a RR made you stand out. Now clients are trying to stand out from one-another. Plus keeping that teak deck oiled and looking pretty is a chore. I agree that the red/blk carbon fibre dash is simply amazing! It has such a depth to it when you sit in that passenger seat and look into it head on. But I am a small detail kind of guy, and the added detail of the wheel inserts just made my day for some reason. LOL

I've decided that I'm going to go see the purple one in person after hearing you talk about it. Is it as blue-purple as it looks in photos? Or is it more purple in person?

andrewo: the purple RR I have only seen photos of.

I have seen the his yellow and red RR's in person, and I really like the interior custom carbon fibre elements of the red one (my favorite being the red carbon fibre inserts on the seering wheel). Does the purple one have a matched carbon fibre interior also?

What I love about the Yellow One is the use of carbon fibre. I love the custom carbon fibre valance on the interior of the hood with all the signatures of the bespoke crew that built the vehicle. I really love that he had them do a custom carbon fibre deck instead of the typical teak.

andrewo: this whole post has gotten out of hand. I never claimed this specific car was a bespoke car, I simply said you could get a similar look through the Bespoke Service. I realize my last post turned into a novel, but the beginning of paragraph 4 specifically states that. I also only used Fux' cars as an example of a client who pushed the envelope in one way or another. I never implied that the car in this photo is of a quality even close to Bespoke, nor did I intend to convey that Fux' cars are finished to a similar quality as this vehicle. My only point is that a finish like this is (obviously real, not a sticker) available through the bespoke service. Not that ths car was Bespoke. Although I have heard of diehard clients sending their cars back to Goodwood to have Bespoke services completed, I would never imagine something like a hood and grill would be worth shipping from CA to West Sussex. Just to clarify, in the end the only point I was trying to make in this whole post is that a finish like this is available through the Bespoke service, not that this car was a product of the Bespoke service.

On another note, I think you know a lot about cars too... I enjoyed learning about the US spec humps vs Euro specs on the Countach.

Did you know that Fux' red RR DHC is actually painted a special red that he requested be made to match the red part of the carbon fibre weave, and that it is actually called Fux Candy Red, and is only available for his cars?

What do you think of Michael's yellow on yellow cars? I was floored when I first saw the Ferrari, and how damn good they did matching the yellow paint to the yellow leather. Then I saw the same deal with the yellow matched yellow Rolls Royce.

I am done with this. Going to delete my previous posts on this matter. In the event pinin, or anyone else for that matter, has any further interest (or opinion) as to whether the RR Bespoke crew would make a Carbon Fibre hood and grill for a coupe, I encourage you to contact your local RR Dealer and inquire, or better yet contact the Bespoke Sales Manager, Thomas Jefferson.

To quote Thomas: "if you can dream it, we will find a way to make it a reality."

sam82 you think you know a lot but really RR would NEVER let a car leave the factory looking like this. In fact i happen to know the shop where this what customized. im sure some of what you said is true, but RR does not custom order phantoms to look this tricked out.

I have seen this Rolls 4 other times and it looks real. I still might be wrong though. It looks exactly like real Carbon Fiber to me

Looks like a carbon-fiber vinyl wrap to me. The panel gaps are too tight to have been an after-market carbon fiber job, and the matte finish is just what that vinyl looks like. Either way, pretty cheesy if you ask me.
