Description I found this R8 V10 driving down Tryon St in uptown several years ago. It drove past me, and I was able to catch up to it on foot after it stopped for a red light. Best shot I could get with my point and shoot. It's hard to believe this spot is from almost four years ago.
Thanks! I don't typically do much spotting on foot anymore, but I did run after this R8 and have also chased an Aventador, a Gallardo, a Viper, a DB9 Volante, and I'm sure some others that I've forgotten about on foot.
I haven't ever really been a big fan of the SLS (I think it's kind of ugly), but that Black Series was really badass. Happened to be at the right place at the right time when I saw that because the owner was having a cup of coffee with the owner of an F12 at Starbucks. I guess those two spottings ate up all my Starbucks spotting luck, because I haven't seen anything else at any other Starbucks locations since haha. And dang, the GT2 is one car I've never managed to get on camera. I've seen one 996 and one 997 model, but both times they were headed in the other direction.
I forgot about when you saw the Black Series! I am yet to see one. It's another car I really like but have kind of forgotten about, like the XK-rs. I saw the same or an identical 996 GT3 outside of Good Food and got a picture of it back in 2014. I saw a 996 GT3 and GT2 within 2 minutes of each other in Delray when I was last there! (unless the GT2 was just a kit, wasn't going fast so couldn't tell by the sound).
Yeah, the Competition was essentially a GT for the refreshed (2014-15) first-generation R8 models. But dang a 996 GT3? Those are really rare. I've only seen four on the streets, and I've only been able to get pics of two of them. I've seen a silver SLS at the Southpark mall, and either the same one or another silver one in Ballantyne spectating a car show. They don't seem to be too common anywhere in NC though, I mean somehow I saw two in a day in Cary once (one of which was an ultra-rare Black Series), but I haven't seen any others aside from those and the silver one(s) I just mentioned, and aside from a chrome-wrapped SL63 AMG and matter grey-wrapped Gallardo STS, I don't remember seeing any exotics aside from the gold R8 (and a ton of Goldrush rally cars on I-85) with notable wraps.
Lol, I've seen a (I think 996) silver GT3 at the Uptown driving past as well as an H1 pickup. I had never even heard of the R8 Competition before but just compared it to the GT on google images and looked at my photo and realized what I saw was in fact a competition, not a GT! They look damn near the same apart from the GT's vents behind the rear wheels. And I haven't seen an SLS since I saw a couple in Delray in 2016. Can't say the last time I saw one in Charlotte. I hope that camo sls and gold r8 are still around, I've never seen a crazy-wrapped supercar.
I'll have to ask if I see him on the site again. He hasn't been very active lately so I'm not sure if he'd respond. I've never seen an R8 GT in person, but I have seen an even rarer V10 Competition model at the Uptown Cabaret (I wasn't going there, just happened to see it in the parking lot as I drove past haha). They only made 60 of those worldwide, so I was super surprised to see it. There was actually a second V10 Competition in the area for a while as well, but I think it's for sale at either Metrolina or FCI. And I'm not sure about the camo-wrapped cars. The 458 was from Metrolina so I assume it has been sold, but I heard that the SLS was sold to a Charlotte local who liked the wrap, so I guess it's still around. I haven't seen an SLS in ages, but there are a handful around the Charlotte area.
Oh wow, I had no idea about that. That's crazy. I saw a white R8 GT in Delray 2 years ago but didn't post it as I've been so inactive until recently. I'll get it up here eventually though, gradually trying to upload essentially all the photos I have and all the ones from the future but it will take a while. That's crazy you came across the owner's son, would love to know if it was sold within the area or where it went if you ever get the chance to ask. Whatever came of the camo SLS and 458? Never saw those.
This was spotted at Phillips Place by a former user on here maybe a couple months before I saw it, but I haven't seen or heard of it since I spotted this. I would assume it has since been sold, but there are so many R8s around here that I'm not really sure. Sadly I believe that blueish grey R8 Spyder was sold. I somehow stumbled upon the son of the owner on another car site I'm on, and he told me a while back that his dad was going to sell it soon. They actually lived in the Lake Norman area, but apparently stopped by Southpark every now and then. I never got to see it, which was a shame because it looked awesome and had a gated manual. And I'm not sure about the gold one; I saw it at the mall once, but I haven't seen or heard of it since. Another former user on here spotted that gold one around Southpark several times, although I'm not sure when the most recent time he saw it was. Also, this is a little unrelated, but a while back, someone on Instagram managed to get into the private parking garage under the Village at Southpark apartments (the apartment buildings at the main entrance of the mall) and stumbled upon a very rare (one of 50 in the US) Audi R8 GT Spyder among the cars parked there. I haven't seen that one yet, but I know there was a grey R8 V10 Coupe in there as well, so maybe the owner upgraded.
